Breast Impants for All Women

From its beginnings as a cosmetic procedure you would only expect a Hollywood starlet to have done, breast augmentation has become the most popular cosmetic plastic surgery procedure in the country – all kinds of women are now undergoing the procedure. We have helped countless mothers to regain the youthful shape and volume in their breasts after their bodies had altered due to the effects of pregnancy. Those who have dealt with self-consciousness or embarrassment due to smaller breasts are able to boost their self-confidence with a natural looking enhancement. Even women who experience one breast being a different size from the other can benefit by balancing out their breasts with implants.

The really great thing about breast augmentation is that it is a highly customizable surgery that can be completely designed to fit your specific, personal needs. No matter your reasons for considering breast augmentation, there is a treatment plan and set of implants for you. At Renaissance Plastic Surgery, no two breast augmentations are alike. Our St. Louis plastic surgeons take the time to really sit down with you and find out what your goals are and how to best make them a reality. Your body is unique and that is how we will treat it throughout the process of your breast augmentation. Each decision will be made with you based on your body, your goals, and most importantly, your safety.

Which breast implants will work best for me?

One of the first questions you will likely ask yourself is: “Silicone or saline?” Or maybe: “What size implants should I get?” But really, there is no one right answer. It all depends on what you want to achieve with your breast augmentation.

At Renaissance Plastic Surgery, we offer a wide range of breast implants, varying in filler material, size, shape, profile and texture to make it easier for you to achieve your ideal breasts. However, all these options can be intimidating if you aren’t quite sure what will work best for you. That is what we’re here for. During your consultation, we will walk you through your options, explaining the pros and cons of each choice and providing you with guidance and recommendations that we feel will give you your best results. It’s not just about holding up a picture of some celebrity and saying “I want these.” While this often helps to give us a good idea of what you’re looking for, there are several other aspects that come into play as well. To really achieve the best results, it is your unique body shape and size that we will be carefully considering. After all, what looks great on one person may not look so fantastic on another (many of us found this out the hard way when we tried imitating someone else’s hairstyle). Our plastic surgeons will look at many factors such as the width of your shoulders and torso, amount of existing breast tissue, and your height, which all can influence the way your results will turn out.

See Your Results Ahead of Time

We even allow you to see what your results may look like in advance thanks to Vectra 3D Imaging. No more diving in head first without some comfort in knowing what to expect. Using Vectra, a specialized 3D imaging software, we are able to show you possible results during your consultation. Know how your breasts may look as a B, C or D cup before a single incision is made.

During your consultation, you will also experience sizing with real breast implants. This way, you can truly visualize how your breasts will look in anything from a form-fitting t-shirt to one of your favorite dresses. Women often feel much more comfortable heading into surgery when they know what they have to look forward to.

What will my breast augmentation surgery be like?

Our St. Louis plastic surgeons have performed the breast augmentation surgery hundreds of times and are highly experienced in achieving beautiful and natural results. When you come into our surgery center, it is our goal to help you feel at ease, excited to move forward with achieving your new breasts.

To begin your surgery, an incision will typically be made within the crease below your breast in order to minimize future visibility of any scarring. There are other incision options available, which can be discussed in depth during your consultation. Through the incision, your plastic surgeon will carefully create a pocket for the implant, either between the breast tissue and the pectoral muscle (subglandular placement), or beneath the muscle (submuscular placement). The implant will then be placed in the created pocket. Unlike silicone implants, which are placed pre-filled, saline implants are filled with the saline solution once they are already in place.

What will the recovery period be like after my breast augmentation surgery?

Most of the time, we can have you in and out of surgery within an hour or two. Once your incisions are closed, a compression garment and surgical bandages will be placed to help assist in the healing process and minimize any swelling. These bandages will normally be removed the following day when you return for your follow-up appointment with your physician. Follow your doctor’s recommendations for continuing wear of the surgical bra for a few weeks following surgery to help provide you the best result.

Every plastic surgery procedure requires a bit of recovery time, but you will most likely return home under the care of a loved one after spending about an hour in a recovery room. Due to the lingering effects of the anesthesia, you should not be driving at this time.

Medication can be used to alleviate any pain or nausea you may experience following your surgery. We may also instruct you to ice your breasts using cold compresses or ice packs for the first two days after your breast augmentation. There will be some normal bruising and swelling of your breasts, which will fade away as your body continues to heal.

During your recovery you should be getting plenty of rest. Try to avoid any strenuous activity and exercise, but walking around will help to control swelling and prevent blood clots. We will provide you with more detailed care instructions following your surgery, and if anything unusual comes up, we are always just a phone call away.

You should be able to return to work after your breast augmentation usually in about 3-5 days. However, if your job requires more use of your arms, you may want to take a couple extra days off until you feel comfortable enough moving around.

Seeing Your Breast Augmentation Results

Though there will be some bruising and swelling when you come out of surgery, you will notice the difference in the shape and size of your breasts immediately. You will want to begin trying on new clothes, bras and bikinis right away, but it will take some time for post-surgical signs to fade. Over the next few months, bruising and swelling will disappear and your incision lines will flatten and lighten to the point where they are hardly visible and easily hidden beneath a bra.

Seeing the final results of your breast augmentation can be an extremely emotionally rewarding experience. Many women experience a boost of self-confidence, feeling more comfortable with their new, rejuvenated figure.

“Within three weeks, I felt like I almost had always had this part of my body, and I felt comfortable and I couldn’t stop looking at them in the mirror!”
