Fresh, clean, light, and dewy—spring is in the air. Wouldn’t you like your skin to reflect the same effervescence of our beautiful spring season here in St. Peters? Understanding the appeal of a healthy glow, Lisa, Renaissance Plastic Surgery and R Medical Spa’s resident skin care aesthetician, is pleased to recommend and perform MicroPen.
A greatly restorative procedure, some patients are taken aback by MicroPen’s use of needles. By discussing the treatment in detail, we hope to alleviate any “needle anxiety” you may have.
What Is MicroPen?
Micro-needling, the theory behind the MicroPen, uses a number of tiny needles to apply a series of controlled micro injuries to the deep, underlying layers of skin (known as the epidermis). Without damaging the dermis (the outermost layer of skin), the microscopic needles puncture the skin—working to induce and stimulate your body’s natural production of collagen and elastin. Aptly named the MicroPen utilizes a unique, pen-like applicator to deliver a uniform treatment.
Advanced in its technology, the MicroPen features thin needles that are spaced closely together to ensure the best treatment possible. Small in size, Lisa is able to work with and around your facial contours—finessing the MicroPen into areas that are not otherwise treatable with larger applicators.
What Is the MicroPen Treatment Like?
To start, the skin is first cleansed. A topical anesthetic is then applied to the treatment area to ensure maximum results with little discomfort and is left on until your skin is numb—typically, the first part of the MicroPen treatment takes 30 to 45 minutes.
A generous layer of hyaluronic acid serum is applied to the skin—allowing the needle to glide easily over the skin as well as providing essential nourishment and hydration. Carefully guiding the MicroPen over the treatment area, Lisa will pass the pen over the skin multiple times. Once finished, a second layer of hyaluronic acid is applied along with a protective sunscreen. Highly efficient, the MicroPen is a relatively short procedure taking under one hour. For optimal results, a series of three treatments are recommended.
Beautiful Results with Minimal Downtime
Immediately following your treatment, you can expect your skin to appear flushed and feel hot—similar as to that of a sunburn. However, this quickly passes with 50 percent of the redness subsiding within an hour. Any residual redness tends to disappear within 24 to 48 hours. With little downtime, you are able to quickly return to your daily activities—including enjoying our lovely spring weather.
