Juvéderm®

Restore Youthfulness to Your Facial Features

juvederm trans

Wrinkles and fine lines are just a natural part of aging, but you don't have to live with these pesky signs of aging.

Juvederm is an injectable dermal filler that works to temporarily improve the appearance of deep facial lines and wrinkles to achieve a younger-looking appearance.

Juvéderm is comprised of a combination of the naturally produced substance hyaluronic acid (HA) and the numbing agent lidocaine, and is extensively used at Renaissance Plastic Surgery in St. Peters. Juvederm has been around for over ten years and has built a reputation as a highly popular filler to help smooth away wrinkles and folds on the central-most areas of your face.

A Juvederm treatment can help with such problems as:

  • Marionette lines (facial folds that extend downward from the corners of the mouth)
  • Nasolabial folds (lines extending from the nose to the edges of the mouth)
  • Thinning Lips (Lip Augmentation)

Your Juvederm Treatment

A Juvederm treatment takes just half an hour. It is injected below the skin at the treatment site in order to add volume so that the surface lines and wrinkles can be smoothed out. Patients are typically able to return to their daily routine without any downtime. Some people may experience slight redness, itching, or bruising, but these are minor side effects and shouldn't last any longer than a week.

Juvederm has been proven to last for up to a year with minor touch-up treatments. The filler can also be used in combination with other injectable treatments like Botox to treat an even wider range of lines and wrinkles.

What Is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is the flagship dermal filler in what has become an extended line (we also carry Juvéderm Voluma, Juvéderm Volbella, and Juvéderm Vollure at Renaissance). Juvéderm remains the most popular single filler in the line. First approved by the FDA in 2006, Juvéderm (along with Restylane) were the original dermal fillers. They have both proven to be very effective and popular for erasing lines and returning volume to areas across the cheeks down to the mouth.

How Does Juvéderm Work?

All Juvéderm fillers are natural fillers because they’re made with hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body whose job is to hydrate, firm, and plump the skin. Hyaluronic acid can hold 1,000 times its weight in water. It lubricates joints and is in connective tissue. When injected, the hyaluronic acid in all Juvéderm fillers binds with water molecules in the area to firm the skin, add volume, and fill wrinkles.

How Long Will My Results from Juvéderm Injections Last?

Juvéderm erases lines, such as smile lines, for between 9 and 12 months.

Are Juvéderm Injections Painful?

For most of our dermal filler injections at our Medical Spa in Renaissance, we apply topical numbing cream prior to your session. This adds some time to your appointment to allow the anesthetic to fully take effect, but it means you’ll feel little during your injections. Some patients prefer it; other patients don’t feel the need.

How Long Does a Juvéderm Injection Session Take?

The length of your session depends on the areas you’re targeting with Juvéderm. Most sessions take less than 30 minutes. If you want us to apply topical numbing cream prior to your injections, you need to allow extra time for that to take effect.

How Is Juvéderm Different than Botox?

The various Juvéderm fillers we offer at Renaissance are all hyaluronic fillers. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in our bodies that is responsible for hydrating and plumping the skin. It does this by binding with nearby water molecules. When injected beneath a wrinkle or crease, or an area of volume loss, Juvéderm fillers simply add volume, pushing the skin back upward. Juvéderm and other dermal fillers work on wrinkles and lines that show themselves at all times. These are called static wrinkles and they are the result of sun damage, declining collagen production, environmental factors, and natural aging.

Botox is a neuromodulator made from the botulinum toxin. It works in a completely different manner than a dermal filler. When Botox is injected into a muscle, it temporarily stops that muscle from contracting. On the upper third of the face, wrinkles form when we make certain expressions such as frowning or showing surprise. These actions engage muscles and over time wrinkles form on the skin above the muscle. This type of wrinkle is known as a dynamic wrinkle. Dynamic wrinkles form on the upper third of the face: crow’s feet at the side of the eyes, the 11s between the eyebrows, and forehead lines.

Bottom line? Juvéderm erases static wrinkles caused by sun damage and collagen loss; Botox erases dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle contractions.

Will I Have Any Recovery After My Juvéderm Injections?

There isn’t any recovery or downtime after your Juvéderm session. As soon as you leave our St. Peters office you can get right back to your normal activities. For the first 24 hours after your injections, you should avoid rubbing the injection sites to let the hyaluronic acid fully settle in and bind with nearby water molecules.

Are There Side Effects with Juvéderm?

Because hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in the human body, reactions to Juvéderm are very rare. Plus, if the patient isn’t happy with the look of an injected area, an enzyme can be injected, which instantly breaks down the hyaluronic acid and returns the skin to its former appearance. Otherwise, there can be a little redness and slight swelling at the injection sites, but that passes very quickly. Results are immediate.
