Kybella™: A New Solution to an Age Old Problem

RPS, Kybella - Image A double chin has long been a problem for many of our patients. Not alone in their struggle, one study found that 68 percent of those polled were also unhappy with the excess fat under their chin and neck. A tough area to target for all, a double chin transcends gender, age, and physical fitness. This changes with Kybella. The first of its kind, Kybella is the latest in injectable treatments and is the only injectable treatment designed to improve the appearance of mild to moderate fat beneath the chin.

Finally! A Solution

Kybella is a formulation of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule produced by our bodies that is responsible for breaking down and absorbing fat. When injected, Kybella disrupts the cell membrane, causing the cell to lyse, or burst. Fat is liquefied, absorbed, and naturally flushed out of the body. As the cells are no longer present, they can no longer store or accumulate fat—giving you the shapely and defined profile that you have dreamed of.

What You Need to Know

Kybella is the first and only injectable substance to receive FDA approval to treat submental (below the chin) fat. For the best results, Kybella should be completed as a series of treatments. While the majority of patients—80 percent—notice visible results in as little as two to four treatments, a small amount of individuals require the full series of six. Spaced anywhere from four to six weeks apart, each treatment is composed of around 20 to 30 injections. At Renaissance Plastic Surgery, our practitioners are expertly trained to carefully and precisely place each injection. This ensures that only fatty deposits are treated while leaving the surrounding cells and tissues unaffected. When performed in full, Kybella is a permanent solution and re-treatment should not be necessary.

Few Side Effects & Little to No Downtime

As with any injectable treatment, there is a slight chance that tenderness, bruising, and swelling may occur. Any residual effects should subside in two to five days. One thing to keep in mind: patients reported experiencing the most severe side effects after their first treatment.
