Tummy Tucks for Men & Woman
Flatten your tummy in just 15 minutes a day with this exercise! Eat this secret fruit to tighten up your belly in no time! The secret to treating excess skin, discovered by Dr. Such-and-such.
We’ve all heard these before and probably have even read a couple articles and tried out the so-called special exercises or super foods. When you’re struggling with excess flab and skin after going through multiple pregnancies or losing a significant amount of weight, it can be frustrating trying to get your body looking firm and toned again, so many people will try just about anything. However, none of these fast fixes can really do anything to tighten up loose skin and tissue. Even when you go out for a run every morning and eat as healthy as possible, the excess skin will often still be left hanging. For a real answer to the excess skin, it may be time to consider tummy tuck surgery. The tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is a body contouring surgery that is designed to remove the loose skin and tissue to flatten and re-shape your abdomen.
What can look like a problem with too much fat may actually be the result of loose, excess skin and tissue. However, people will often treat the excess skin the same way as fat, trying to burn it off with exercise and nutrition. While this is good for your health and maintaining a stable weight, it will not do a whole lot for tightening up the skin.
Loose skin is not a problem that can be solved with some sort of magic product or targeted abdominal exercises. When your skin has been stretched over a long period of time, whether because of pregnancy or obesity, once your body reverts to its healthy, slimmer size, the skin will have lost enough elasticity to be able to tighten up on its own. Oftentimes, the abdominal muscles are also stretched out which can cause your belly to protrude outwards. These are all physical problems that cannot be improved without some sort of surgery.
Think about it this way. Let’s say you have a favorite sweater that fits you just the way you like. However, after letting one of your friends who is a bit larger borrow it, it comes back fitting a bit loose with the fabric sort of drooping off in front of you. There’s not a whole lot you can do to get it to fit the way it used to, aside from taking it to a tailor. Similarly, a tummy tuck will be needed for loosened skin to be firm and tight again.
When you come in for your tummy tuck consultation with one of our St. Louis board-certified plastic surgeons, we will carefully analyze your physical condition and listen to your expectations. Remember, the tummy tuck is only intended to tighten skin and repair the abdominal wall. If you are also struggling with stubborn areas of excess fat, we may recommend combining liposuction with your tummy tuck in order to achieve the best possible results.
Your surgery will be performed under general anesthesia. We will begin by making a horizontal incision below your belly button where any future scarring can be easily hidden beneath your underwear or a bikini. From there, we will be able to repair and cinch together any loose or weakened muscles of the abdominal wall to create a stronger core. Small amounts of abdominal fat can be removed using liposuction. Once we have strengthened your abdominal wall and removed excess fat and tissue, we will pull the skin tight to achieve a taut appearance and remove any extra skin before closing your incisions.
Your St. Louis plastic surgeon may place surgical drains at your incision sites to prevent excess fluids from building up. We will also provide you with a special compression garment to help assist with the healing process of your skin and to minimize any swelling.
The tummy tuck is a body contouring surgery and will require you to spend a few weeks recovering. You should be able to return home after your surgery, but have a loved one there to drive you. The effects of the anesthesia will continue to linger for some time and all you will want to do after your procedure is take a nice, long nap. Most men and women will need to take about two weeks off of work while recovering, but make sure to wait a while longer before exercising or participating in more strenuous activity.
When you first look down to see your belly, you will notice an immediate change in the shape and contouring of your abdomen. The hanging skin will be gone and you will have a much flatter appearance. However, there will be some initial bruising and swelling clouding the final results of your surgery. As your body continues to heal and your scar fades and flattens over time, you will begin feeling more comfortable with your results and will soon be ready and excited to show off your new body.
“Every day for that first week, you feel a little better and a little better. And I will never forget the first time I took off that compression thing and I looked in the mirror and man, I almost cried…I’ve got chills even talking about it…It was like I have a waist again, and I-I have like a flat stomach!” – Chrissy, RPS Mini Tummy Tuck Patient
