Body Procedures
At Renaissance Plastic Surgery, we offer a number of procedures to help patients achieve a more defined and proportionate body contour, including tummy tuck, liposuction, and Lipodissolve™.
- Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
-
A surgical procedure that improves the appearance of the midsection, a tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, is especially helpful for those patients who retain stubborn excess weight in the abdominal region. Following the tummy tuck procedure, patients can expect a flatter, more defined, and more attractive stomach.
The tummy tuck procedure is utilized to remove excess fat and skin from the midsection and tighten the underlying abdominal muscles. After the surgery, the incisions are covered with bandages and a small tube may be used to drain excess fluid. Our plastic surgeons will prescribe medication that can be used to alleviate discomfort during the initial tummy tuck recovery period. At our St. Louis , Missouri area center, stitches are typically removed about a week after surgery, although deeper sutures may be in place for up to three weeks.
Our plastic surgeons may provide you with a pain pump for your use after your procedure to help alleviate discomfort during the initial recovery period. The post-op pain relief system provides continuous infusion of a local anesthetic directly into the surgical site for effective, non-narcotic and non-sedating post-operative pain relief for up to 5 days. This reduces your overall pain level and the need for narcotic pain medications to control potential breakthrough pain. Simply stated, it allows you to return to your normal activities more quickly and comfortably. For more information about the use of the pain pump, please contact us.

top - Liposuction
-
A surgical procedure that extracts fat from specific areas of the body, liposuction can help create a slimmer, shapelier figure and increase overall satisfaction with appearance. Problem areas that do not respond to traditional exercise and dieting modifications can often be effectively treated with liposuction surgery. At our St. Louis, Missouri area office, our experienced plastic surgeons work with each patient to determine if liposuction is an appropriate treatment option.
Liposuction is a popular procedure because it produces noticeable results with minimal or no visible scarring. It is accomplished using a small suction instrument that is inserted through tiny incisions in the areas to be treated. The hips, thighs, waist, calves, ankles, upper arms, chin, and neck are the areas most commonly targeted, but liposuction can be used to treat other problem spots as well.
After the liposuction procedure is complete, an elastic bandage is applied to the incisions in order to reduce swelling and promote healing. In complex liposuction procedures, patients should be monitored closely to make sure no complications occur. Most patients can return to work several days after liposuction surgery, and stitches are typically removed in one week.

Through the injection of phosphatidylcholine and deoxycholate, this treatment reduces those areas of unwanted fat which do not resolve with diet and exercise. Multiple treatments are necessary.

top - Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)
-
Fluctuations in weight, age and even heredity can cause your upper arms to have a drooping, sagging appearance. Though exercise may strengthen and improve the underlying muscle tone of the upper arm, it cannot address the excess skin that has lost its elasticity. The arm lift, or brachioplasty, is designed to reduce the excess sagging skin that droops downward while tightening and smoothing the underlying supportive tissues that defines the shape of the upper arm.
With the arm lift procedure, an incision is made along the inner aspect of the upper arm. Since the amount of excess tissue may vary between individuals, your incisions will be customized to meet your needs. Your incision may be minimal in nature and involve only the underarm area or it may extend from the chest across the underarm area to just above the elbow, if a greater amount of excess tissue is present.
Following your surgery, dressings or bandages will be applied to your incisions, and your arms may be wrapped in an elastic bandage or compression garment. This garment is typically required for several weeks following surgery in order to speed your recovery and minimize swelling.

top - Thigh Lift (Thighplasty)
-
A thigh lift reshapes the thighs by reducing the excess skin, and in some cases fat, resulting in a smoother skin and better-proportioned contour of the thigh and lower body. A thigh lift may be right for you if you have excess soft tissue along the inner or outer thigh region that has not responded to exercise and weight loss efforts.
As with many body contouring procedures, your incision may vary depending upon the amount of excess tissue present. While outer thigh lifts usually require an incision extending from the groin around the hip, inner thigh lift incisions may vary from a limited incision in the groin region alone to an inner thigh incision that almost reaches the knee. Your incisions will be customized to meet your aesthetic goals.
When your procedure is completed, dressing or bandages will be applied to your incisions, and you will be wrapped in an elastic bandage or compression garment to minimize swelling and to support your new contours as you heal. In addition, one or more small, thin tubes may be temporarily placed under the skin to drain excess fluid that may collect.

top - Lower Body Lift
-
Following weight reduction surgery, or any substantial amount of weight loss, the skin and tissues often lack elasticity and cannot conform to the reduced body size. As a result, skin that has been severely stretched now is unsupported. In the abdominal area this may extend around the sides and into the lower back area, resulting in an apron-like overhang of the abdomen, outer thighs and buttocks.
Surgical body contouring following major weight loss improves the shape and tone of your underlying tissue that supports fat and skin, and removes excess sagging fat and skin. The result is a more normal appearance to the body, with smoother contours. This is, in essence, the final phase of your total weight loss experience.
A complete lower body lift simultaneously treats a sagging buttock, abdomen, waist, hips and outer thighs in one procedure or in staged procedures. Incision patterns vary, and may include a circumferential incision around the body to remove the "belt" of excess skin and fat. Due to the sometimes extensive nature of a complete lower body lift, a short hospital stay is often recommended. After your body contouring procedure is completed, bandages and a compression garment will be applied to your incisions.
